25th Anniversary Mad Max Reunion

On April 12th 2004, twenty of the original Cast and Crew (see Call Sheet below) attended a private reunion celebrating the fact that it had been 25 years to the very day since the film Mad Max was first released in Australia.

The Belvoir Street Theatre in Surry Hills, Sydney, that memorable Easter Monday afternoon played venue to what became, for me at least, a spiritual experience. After all, the elements were all there – there were members of the Bronze, The Toecutter Gang and the Production Crew, who had all fortunately assembled some 27 years earlier to create a movie that is as memorable and thrilling today as it was when first released in 1979.

It was on this day that George Miller and his Cast and Crew would celebrate the magic that existed then, and that hung heavily in the air that night. Many words were spoken and many hugs and precious memories were shared.

It was 25 years on and, not surprisingly, Mad Max was still a topic for much discussion, only now those doing the talking were some of the people who made it all happen. Much of this talk would highlight the unique, maybe once in a lifetime, chemistry that existed on the set and many remembered and relished the time they spent in the company of the late Byron Kennedy.

It was a most joyous and uniquely personal experience and I am honoured to be able to cherish its memory.
